We begin work on the new mythbusters set next week... Any ideas? I am feeling an industrial look, with lots of metal and shiny shiny... How about some input team!
I stand by my original idea -- somehow, incorporating a "traditional" church setting (or at least a few elements of it -- hey, Amy; you want to wear a choir robe?) migth be kinda cool.
...especailly for visitors who come expecting a CHURCH church and get a warehouse. :)
Maybe you can incorporate a creative placement of yelow CAUTION tape on the stage? Heck, place a dummy (or some of the traditional "Mythbusters" props from the show) behind the welcome center...but I'd be cautious about what you place outside the warehouse. While *I* get the industrial vibe, to others, it might look like the church is "unfinished."
Yeah, so, theologically that might be cool, but... :)
I do like the industrial/shiny look for the stage. Here's an idea or two...I assume we are bringing out the middle screen again and if so, we could "frame the screen in some shiny metal piping. We could also bring out the huge wooden stage props that Larry built and possible print or paint the Mythbusters logo in panels. It would look abstract and industrial. Just an idea.
I really like Sonny's idea. It might distance ourselves a little more away from the show... if that's what we want. It would fit real well, perhaps even bridge the gap for the videos?
Okay -- so this is actually more content-driven than creative...but...meh. Deal with it. :)
Anyway, this link does NOT do this DVD justice by any stretch of the imagination, but if you get the chance to grab/borrow/steal a copy of it, watch it for the first four minutes alone. Socks will be rocked, and content will be driven. Massively.
And I say if Amy waers a choir robe, Davey gets to dress up Ziggy Stardust style. THAT will bust a few myths (and guts, with laughter).
Jim's input: Down w' Chris' idea of 2-3 Mythbuster logos part of design helping set the stage and series tone...
Church Setting - does that take us down the road of busting myths about "CHURCH" (a place/institution) vs. 'LIFESTYLE/BELIEFS"...ok, if it just gives us the idea of "hey, there's a lot of myths about church" but don't really see us in our content so far busting myths about church (a place) rather we will be dealing w' busting myths about Christians (lifestyle and actions)
Rip off...well, as I watched Mythbusters this past weekend w' the kids...looks like logo wise we're already 'in deep'
Sonny...you are SO COOL...how do I get my picture attached to my comments
How 'bout playing on the theme of mad scientist? Think 19th century physician/dentist, medieval alchemist or Galileo era astronomy. Props could include beakers, globes, charts, graphs, architectural drawings - anything da Vinciesque. I'm thinking this is about more than just busting myths but also establishing truth. I hypothesize that all good laws, tenets, and universally accepted truths are derived through experimentation, exposition, and experience. If we use the scientific method to prove or disprove these posits we've got the entire bevy of scientific accoutrements at our ready as props. I just wanted to say "bevy".

Ah, but honestly, how many people can't separate the two? There is a pervasive attitude in many people about "here's the church, here's the steeple, open the door, and see all the hypocrites."
I know that content wise, this new series is all about busting the myths of what it means to follow Christ, but (IMHO) it needs to be at least peripherally addressed that we understand that when we hear or see the word church, there's a Pavlovian response of the traditional, oppressive, judgemental, imposing place AND populated by people (with similar characteristics) who are more in tune with restrictions than a celebration of grace.
Kinda like these two clowns (cut & paste the link in the post above to go to YouTube to watch a series of hilarious, if not close-to-home-hitting, videos).
